Fruit Fly

Acrylic paint, 15.7 x 15.7 inches, 2003.

I actually have no idea if the real fruit fly is the same thing as that worm that eats its way out of apples, but this picture was inspired by that idea, and the title fitted. Here is a newly hatched fairy, getting its first sights, sounds and smells of the fresh new world. It's probably hungry still.

'Fruit Fly' - a hatching fruit fairy - painting by Nancy Farmer.
Fruit Fly

This was done in Acrylics - a very unusual medium for me, in fact it was the first time I had touched acrylic paints since school. After that I painted only Finderskeepers before deciding that they were not the paints for me! It's hard to paint a high enough level of detail for my work and although I found acrylics briefly fascinating in the end I got frustrated with them and have not gone back to them
