This pair of drawings were done to illustrate the short story 'The longest road in the Universe' by C.S. MacCath. I particularly loved this story; it's compelling, touching and very strange and creepy all at once. To read it you'll have to purchase issue number 7 of Murky Depths - a quarterly anthology for which I've been doing some illustration lately.
