Red Devil
Artwork details: gouache, coloured pencil, 7 x 9 inches (18 x 23 cm), 2005.
This was done by covering a piece of paper with a single colour of gouache paint (Burnt Sienna) and then wetting and removing it to reveal lighter areas as the paper showed through. Finally I added highlights and shadows with a white pencil and a graphite pencil. The devil is red partly because he was painted with red before the initial covering of burnt sienna, and partly because some red pencil has been added on top to strengthen the colour.
